Waimea is a brand new dual purpose hop variety from New Zealand (can be used for both aroma and bittering). It is the granddaughter of Pacific Jade. It has been described as having intense fresh tangelo, citrus fruit and subtle pine needle characteristics, with plenty of alpha acids too. Waimea has that much sought after new world flavour, selected originally for it's alpha content and quality bitterness but now for its genuine dual purpose capability in delivering of unique fresh crushed citrus aroma and flavour notes. It can be used across a wide array of styles in a variety of brewhouse and dry hopping applications in IPA's or big Imperial style Lagers. Alpha acid: 15.7% Main uses: Aroma and bitterness Typical beers: IPA, lagers, New World pale ales and bitters.
