Used to adjust colour and flavour of light coloured beers. The palest of the crystal malts, this grain is used when a crystal character is wanted but no darkening of the beer. Particularly suitable for pale ales and bitters. Caramalt may be used without mashing and merely steeped and so is useful for extract brewers but if you are mashing the rest of your grains anyway then it is better to add the caramalt to the mash too. Colour 30 - 40 EBC; Maximum percentage recommended usage is 20% of the grain bill.
